Dendroskop
An application designed for performing relascope measurements in tree stands
Measurements are taken using a phone or tablet with a built-in camera. The program’s functions allow you to determine the abundance of the forest stand and the intensity of thinning. Dendroskop can be successfully used as an aid in forest assessments and by foresters in creating timber valuations as well as planning. This application was created for the Android operating system.

How does Dendroskop work?
The program is used to measure the cross-sectional area and ultimately the abundance using the Bitterlich method. During the measurement, individual observations (diameters at breast height that do not fit in the frame on the phone screen) are saved according to species code to memory, and finally, after completing the data with the height, which can be entered or measured using the phone, the program automatically calculates the abundance of individual species.
Extensive measurement module
The measurement can be performed on a single surface without saving the results (quick measurement) or several measurements can be taken within a single section. In the latter case, the data from individual measurements are saved in memory, and at the end, the program calculates the average values for the entire section.
Assessment description
A detailed description of the tree stand can be displayed.
Created on the basis of the measurement taken. The description includes elements such as: species composition, abundance, height, and, after adding information about age, also tree cover and the quality rating of individual species.

Information about the volume of trees in a stand

After switching the application to “Treatment intensity” mode and taking several measurements on the relascope surfaces, the user receives information about the volume of each species in the stand, the volume that can be harvested (in percent as well as m3) – volume can be displayed in gross (with bark) or net (without bark) values.

The application uses calculation methods currently used in forestry, i.e.:

- Maintenance cuts efficiency tables,
- Forest Management Manual.
